Caribbean Poker Glossary

Caribbean Poker is a great game to play especially if you like Poker. But this variant of the main game possesses its own vocabulary and not everyone can apprehend it fully without a minimum of experience.

Arc-en-ciel

Known as rainbow in English this term refers to three cards which are completely different.

Matched

Cards that have the same colour.

Coupled

Cards that have the same numerical value.

Kind

Known as three-of-a-kind in English. This term refers to three cards which are digitally similar.

Call

Known as suivre in French. This term refers to a bet placed by the player which is of equal value to that placed by the dealer.

Caribbean Stud

Distinct from Caribbean poker. In this game using a table similar to that used in blackjack, spreads, and reminders and bluffing is not uncommon

Square

Known as four-of-a-kind in English. This term refers to four cards that have the same value.

Closed cards

Cards distributed by the dealer that are not viewable by the player.

Open cards

Cards distributed by the dealer that are viewable by the player

Colour

Known as flush in English. This term refers to a Hand consisting of five cards of the same colour: Heart, Clubs, Spades or Diamonds.

Lay

Means giving up.

Deck

A stack 52 of the cards used in the game

Give

The distribution of cards as effected by the dealer.

Full

A hand consisting of three of a kind and a pair.

Chip

The unit of betting in Caribbean Poker.

Hand

The best combination of five cards of the player, including closed and open cards

Bet

Known as bet in English; the amount staked by the player.

Open

A term meaning that you are the first to bet

Pair

Two cards of the same value.

Pot

The total stakes at the table

Fees

The commission taken on the total stakes of a player in online casinos.

Straight

Five cards of different colours which follow each other numerically. In French, the word "straight" has many synonyms such as "suite" or "sequence".

Straight flush

Known as straight flush in English. It is a straight with cards of the same colour.

Royal Straight Flush

Known as royal flush in English. It is a straight flush which contains an ace.

Fill

An expression that means the player has to draw a card he expected to complete his hand.

Board

All the community cards placed on the Caribbean Poker table.
